...to keep me from thinking of mine

Some people have unseemly reality-television addictions, but I haven't got that kind of patience. Instead, I read advice columns for the entertainment value, by which I mean the armchair quarterbacking and the wondering what the other side's side of things sounds like.

To ruin the productivity of my kind, we have Sidetaker, in which he says and she says and then we get to vote. So far the side has a bad case of eHarmony-itis (that is, only The Straights need apply), I apparently have vastly deterioriated reading-comprehension skills this week, but that doesn't mean I haven't been compulsively reading and voting on the life crises of perfect strangers. Hey, it ain't snooping if they volunteered...

That sidetracker has to be the most dumbest, coolest, and brilliant idea...

But too dangerous to really use...

The few posts i checke there made it clear that I should resist temptation to give advice... most were so annoying ly stupid that i would not be able to resist the temptation to snark heavily.

One couple i would be torn between telling them to break up since they obviously don't trust one another... or stay together, because they are each dumb enough to deserve the other.

Neil! I owe you email, but alas the questions got me thinking, which tends to result in long ruminations on posts that never result in actual *posts*. Or mail. Short answer to mail, though: I'm in a serious post-job decompression phase and the FSM alone knows what's flying out of my head. It's an oddly pleasant sensation, except when it's not.

And we agree -- and MFH provides a sterling example of why :-) -- that crowdsourcing is a dangerous business. The past couple of days at the site have in fact been most edifying in that respect, as the crowds flock and things start to head off the rails.

Which brings me to my next point: MFH, the physics questions over there was yours, wasn't it. I sense this to be the case. So proud. So proud.

Re: the physics question... ummm wasn't me, and i missed it... I have not registered an account there, in part to make it easier to avoid temptation.

There are entirely too many temptations there for bringing out my mean side.

Though now i have to go looking for the physics question...
